Percent to Fraction Converter
Convert a decimal percentage into a simplified fraction directly in your browser.
Convert percent to fraction
Method
A percentage is a number per one hundred. The converter writes the entered decimal percentage over 100, removes the decimal-place scale, and then divides the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor. This preserves a finite decimal percentage exactly instead of approximating it with an unrelated denominator.
Worked example
12.5% becomes 12.5/100, then 125/1000, which simplifies to 1/8.
When this is useful
Fraction form can make proportions easier to compare, explain, or use in classroom work. For example, 25% is immediately recognizable as 1/4, while 12.5% is 1/8. The conversion changes representation only; it does not change the underlying value.
Privacy
The entered percentage is processed locally in the browser and is not sent to a calculation service.
Limitations
This version accepts ordinary finite decimal notation rather than scientific notation. Very long decimal inputs are rejected to keep integer arithmetic reliable. Repeating decimals require a different representation because a finite typed decimal cannot encode an infinite repeating sequence exactly.
