Method

The digits after the decimal point determine a power-of-ten denominator. The numerator and denominator are then reduced by their greatest common divisor.

Worked examples

• 0.75 = 3/4.
• 1.25 = 5/4.
• −0.125 = −1/8.

The decimal is processed locally.

Limitations

This version converts finite decimal strings. Repeating decimals must be entered as a finite approximation.
