Image Utility
Image Compressor
Compress JPEG, PNG, or WebP images locally by re-encoding them with browser image codecs.
Method
The browser decodes the selected image, draws it to a canvas at the original pixel dimensions, then re-encodes it as WebP, JPEG, or PNG. JPEG and WebP expose a quality setting; PNG is lossless and ignores that quality setting.
Worked example
A small PNG can be converted to WebP or JPEG at a chosen quality. Depending on the image content, the output may be smaller or larger than the original; the tool reports both file sizes and the percentage change.
Privacy
Your input is processed in your browser by Practical Tools Hub application assets. This tool does not need to upload your files or text to a third-party processing service.
Limitations
Re-encoding is not guaranteed to reduce every file. PNG output can be larger than a source JPEG/WebP. Metadata may not be preserved. Images above 40 megapixels are rejected to reduce browser-memory risk.
