This GPA Calculator estimates your weighted grade point average from course grades and credit hours. It multiplies each course grade value by its credits, adds the results, and divides by total credits.

How to calculate GPA

For each course, multiply the grade points by the credit hours. Then add all grade points together and divide by the total number of credits.

GPA = total grade points ÷ total credits

Weighted GPA example

If a 3-credit course has an A worth 4.0 points, it contributes 12 grade points. If a 4-credit course has a B worth 3.0 points, it contributes 12 grade points. Together, those courses produce 24 grade points over 7 credits, for a GPA of 3.43.

Common GPA scale assumptions

This MVP uses a common 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades. Schools can use different rules, so your official GPA may differ from this estimate.

What is a 4.0 GPA scale?

A 4.0 scale usually assigns A-level work near 4.0 points, B-level work near 3.0 points, C-level work near 2.0 points, and so on.

Does this calculate weighted GPA?

Yes. Credit hours are used as weights, so a 4-credit class affects the result more than a 1-credit class.

What if my school uses plus/minus grades?

The calculator includes common plus/minus grade values. Your school may use different values, so check your institution’s policy.

Can I calculate semester GPA and cumulative GPA?

You can use the same method for either. Enter only current semester courses for semester GPA, or include all relevant courses for cumulative GPA planning.

Why might my official GPA differ?

Schools may use different grade scales, repeat-course rules, transfer-credit rules, rounding rules, and transcript policies.
